Snazzy Jeans!

When shopping with my girls today, I had a major flashback: to 1987 when I was working in the laundry tub bleaching my jeans and jean skirts. I always loved that look, and it's BACK! Splattered gobs of color are cute but also make a statement "I have a little wild in me!"

This inspired me to teach MY girls how to bleach their OWN jeans! Yes, passing down this valuable lesson to my children will come back to them in 20 years with my grandchildren! History in the making right here!

First, we found dark jeans (we thought that would be the most dramatic) at Walmart for $8. I figured if we messed this up it wouldn't be an expensive mistake. We then went to the bleach aisle and found bleach for only $1.47. So far only $17.47!

When we got home, I was trying to decide what to use to splatter the bleach. I thought maybe a spray bottle, but no, not dramatic enough. Then I though maybe just a cup, but no, wouldn't be able to get little splatters. Then I remembered I had an extra ketchup squeeze bottle from the dollar store! This was paired with another so only 50 cents for this treasure. Now at $17.97!

My daughter and I decided on doing this activity on the deck (which I don't recommend because it bleached the deck). The jeans had a protectant on them that made the bleach bead up. We decided to wash them FIRST, then bleach them straight out of the washer. While the jeans were wet, we splashed, sprayed, and soaked with bleach.

Next, we let the jeans sit in the sink for about 5 minutes. I think the longer they would have sat, the brighter the bleach would have become. We were too excited to wait too long so we put them in the washer. After washed and dried, they were works of art!

Now, I've heard of using sandpaper to get the worn look.......on to the next adventure!

Princess Chair

Every girl wants to be a princess, and a princess needs a fancy chair to sit on! I found this chair at a garage sale for $10. With some paint, sparkly fabric, and some imagination a princess chair was transformed!

Chair found at garage sale for $10! I liked it because it has an upholstered seat that can be recovered with shiny sparkly fabric! This chair is also very good quality...solid wood and does not have any nicks or scrapes that I will have to sand down.

Once I removed the cushion, I removed the old fabric and stapled on new shiny fabric. I then stapled and gathered sparkly tulle (remember the idea is sparkly princess!) all around the perimeter. I don't have a picture of the next couple steps but next I lightly sanded the frame of the chair, sprayed with primer, and brushed on a couple coats of white latex paint.

At this point I did not secure the cushion yet. I still had to add the stickers, gems, and the name! I attached the stickers and gems with gorilla super glue.

Finished product! After all the gems and stickers were attached, I bolted the seat cushion back on. I then added some tied ribbon.

Be creative! You can make this chair for a boy or girl! My daughter said she wants me to make her a soccer chair.....ahhh. On to my next adventure.....
